2003 Fundraising

During the first visit of the Zimbabwe Ski Team to their home base at the Matopos Alpine Club in June last year, a presentation was made to the Matobo Conservation Society. The monies have been held by the MCS pending the identification of a suitable project in the rural areas of the Matobo Hills, and two proposals have been forwarded to the relevant authorites.

At a quarterely MCS Field Trip in July 2003, members of the MCS were advised of the donation, and were able to show their appreciation to "Bacchus" who was present at the outing. At the Annual General Meeting of the MCS on 3 December 2003, held at Maleme Rest camp, in the Matobo national Park, further appreciation was expressed, and a suitable minute recorded.

The highlight for 2003, which was also the tenth anniversary of the MCS, was the attainnment of World Heritage Staus for the Matobo Hills. This places the Matopos Alpine Club right in the heart of a World Hertitage Site - a unique claim.
